Objectives & Context

Ethiopia's wind energy potential is among the highest in sub-Saharan Africa, yet developing bankable wind projects requires rigorous technical due diligence that many local developers lack the capacity to prepare independently. A private equity consortium sought independent technical validation of three wind farm projects at different stages of development — early-stage resource assessment, pre-financial close, and construction-ready — each presenting distinct technical and contractual risk profiles. Lenders required an Independent Engineer capable of assessing both technical soundness and the robustness of engineering assumptions underpinning financial models.

Our Approach & Solution

TSC Global acted as Independent Engineer across the portfolio, conducting wind resource assessment review, energy yield analysis, turbine technology due diligence, grid connection studies, civil and electrical infrastructure design review, and contractor capability assessment. The team reviewed EPC contracts, operations and maintenance agreements, and insurance arrangements for technical adequacy. For the construction-ready project, TSC Global defined a lender's construction monitoring programme with quarterly site reporting obligations and draw-down certification procedures.

Results & Impact

TSC Global's technical due diligence reports provided the consortium's lenders with the confidence to approve financing for the two most advanced projects, representing a combined investment of approximately USD 320 million. The early-stage project received a detailed roadmap for achieving bankability, enabling the developer to prioritise data collection and design improvements that would support a future financing round.
